Description
3D printable bust sculpture of Roderick L. Mayer, a United States Navy officer and naval aviator who served during the Cold War and Vietnam War. Commissioned through the Navy ROTC program at the University of Idaho in 1961, Mayer completed flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1963 before transitioning to fleet service as an F-4 Phantom II pilot.
He served with Fighter Squadron VF-41 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence (CVA-62), participating in multiple combat missions during the Vietnam War, including strike, escort, reconnaissance, and combat air patrol operations. On October 17, 1965, during a combat mission over North Vietnam, his aircraft was lost after ejection under hostile conditions. He was later listed as Missing in Action and was declared deceased in 1977.
Mayer’s service reflects the intense air combat environment of Vietnam-era carrier aviation and the high-risk nature of F-4 Phantom II operations. His Air Medal citation recognizes sustained combat participation and professionalism under fire.
This model is intended as a commemorative piece for collectors, military history enthusiasts, and memorial displays honoring naval aviation personnel. Designed specifically for 3D printing with clean geometry and scalable detail, optimized for high-quality results across various print sizes.
