Update
I've added 2 updated STL files and and 2 photos that show what's changed. Also, here's a 15 sec video that shows how the new design works:

SpiralTrack2.stl is the file in the pics & video. SpiralTrack2a is the same design, but with a hole in the center like that of SpiralTrack.stl. Surprisingly I discovered that the design with no hole uses less filament and prints faster:
Spiraltrack2a: 76.01 M filament, 14:23 print time
SpiralTrack2: 69.71 M filament , 12:43 print time

This was a surprisingly difficult design to finalize, and it's not quite perfect yet. I'm posting it now because it does work fairly well, but a few more tweaks would make it even better. Here's a short video that shows how it works:

For the video I used 3/4" diameter steel ball bearings. They are available from Amazon in packages of 10 for around $10.00. Of course there are other sizes too.
