Table Lamp V3 - Single Piece 3D Printable Lamp

This Table Lamp design is a hobby project that I started working on in 2017, and just recently started working on again (in 2020). My goal is to design an attractive and full sized table lamp that can be 3d printed as a single piece (on larger format printers) with no support material, which also allows for the socket and wiring to drop into place with minimal effort.

This is a CHALLENGING PRINT, but it is possible. If you dare try to print this beast, I would highly recommend printing the first half (Up to where the 3 spokes join into the base) with relatively dense infill. This will help them remain stiff during printing. Infill can be decreased once the spokes have all joined together and the base has started to print.

V1 is my first design that I printed and tested, shown in all white in the photo above. Approximately 305 mm (1 ft) tall. While I'm pretty happy with how it came out, I did find that assembly was a tad tricky, and I feel it could be stronger where the shade is attached to the main body. You might also consider printing the shade section of the lamp with 100% infill to avoid the cross-hatched lighting effect you might see around the lower rim of the shade; With slicers like Simplify3D you should be able to adjust the infill to 20% (or less) for the rest of the lamp base. I will likely be back with an updated design in the future! Stay tuned...

3-3-17 V1.1 incorporates some new design tweaks that should make this printable without any support material. Repeat, V1.1 should be printed with 0 supports. It should still be printed upside down just like V1. This lamp is also a little bit taller than V1, with a slightly wider/taller shade as well. Also made the hole in the bottom wider so most people should be able to fit their hands inside for easier assembly. I am yet to test printing this one, but I'll post pics when I do!

3-8-17 V1.2 has thicker and stronger ribs, which makes printing go a lot smoother, and the lamp stronger overall! Just under 13" tall by 10" in diameter. The photo of the lamp with the "gold" base and the white shade is a V1.2 print. It printed perfectly, with zero (0) support material required! Please excuse the uneven coloring of the base; As you can probably see, I am experimenting with changing the filament to a different color mid-print to make the base a different color.

3-10-17 V1.3 (REMOVED TO AVOID CONFUSION/ISSUES) Changed this design to support light sockets with integrated pull chains (like this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Westinghouse-2-1-4-in-On-Off-Pull-Chain-Socket-7041100/204836044). I am still testing and tweaking this design, and it MAY NOT FIT PULLCHAIN SOCKETS PROPERLY YET. If you want to print this lamp, I would recommend sticking with V1.2 for now.

4-17-20 V3.1 (and V2.9) STL files are now posted to Thingiverse and available to download. V3.1 is slightly more optimized for printing, while V2.9 is mostly the same design but may be more challenging to print than V3.1. For this reason I recommend V3.1, but V2.9 is available for those who may be curious... Also, just another reminder, THIS IS A CHALLENING PRINT, so be ready to waste some filament if you dare try to print it.
