Luggage Tag - Swivel Privacy Luggage Tag

January 21, 2025
Description
Today, I present The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) 😉Privacy Luggage Tag.
The tag, featuring a convenient swivel mechanism, allows you to easily display or hide the information contained within. When Privacy mode is activated, two opposing magnets 'hold' the lid in place, ensuring your private information stays private. The innovative pass-through retention pin allows you to attach the Privacy Luggage Tag to your suitcase in a method that is convenient for you, such as a 3D-printed zip tie, a commercially purchased zip tie, or a fancy handmade paracord lanyard, connected with my Paracord Screw Connector…. you get the idea. That said, luggage handlers can be energetic while handling your bag, so print two tags, one for the outside of your luggage and one for the inside. So, if those luggage handlers put your bag on the wrong plane or the outside tag gets 'lost,' the inside tag can save the day and tell the airline to whom the bag belongs.
Quick Privacy tip: Don't include your home address on the tag (I know my examples have addresses, but they are for illustrative purposes; change the text as you please). Airlines will not just send the bags to your home without talking to you first. Plus, that information will let others know there likely isn't anyone at that address for at least the next day, making it a prime robbery location. However, I would include your name, cell phone number, and email address as contact methods.
Boost MeMy designs often take days to weeks to develop, involving multiple test prints. If you appreciate my work, please consider supporting me by boosting, liking, saving to a collection, following me, and most importantly, printing and rating this design. I genuinely enjoy seeing photos of your prints in the reviews. Thank you!
Before printing, to ensure the best print possible, please run the printer calibration if you have not run one in a while. I applied a generic poop optimization to the print profile that will significantly reduce the poop volume per color change, and the text is set for 0.5mm to reduce the number of color changes further. The text is customizable via Bambu Studio or your favorite alternative slicer. Two versions of the tag are included: one with the luggage icon on the front and one without (so you can put your own design on the front). The overall dimensions for the tags are 103x50mm.
Editing Text in Bambu Studio:
After opening the profile in Bambu Studio, please follow the steps below.
- Make sure you are in the "Prepare" tab.
- Toggle from "Global" to “Objects.”
- Click on the text field you'd like to edit.
- Click the "Text Shape" tool in the toolbar and edit the "Input text" field.
- After editing the text, you will have to readjust the text alignment by clicking and dragging the green box until you are happy with the text placement.
- To change the filament color, Right-Click the box with the number in it, and in the context menu that pops up, select "Change Filament," then pick the AMS slot that contains the color you want to use.
Assembly:
When assembling the tag, please insert the pin through the top cover of the luggage tag. It has been contoured for easier insertion. I included two copies of the pin as they can be somewhat fragile based on your filament choice and condition. The pin inserts the best while it is still warm, because it has a little extra flex in it. I like the fit and finish of PLA, but I also tested PETG, which works fine. The two magnets I used are 3x2 mm; for PLA, they can be press-fit into position with your fingers; for PETG, you might need a touch of glue.
The magnets are part of an assortment I purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WZTSQ9Y?
[Edit Log]
1-22-2025 - I separated the tags into their own print profiles, and although I am not very artsy, a request was made, and I was able to accommodate them. So, I added one with a freshly designed flower icon.
1-24-2025 - I added a link in the description to my Paracord Screw Connector, added a couple of new pics, and turned off ironing in the print profiles, as I do not believe the extra print time is worth the minimal surface effect.
