🏺 Breakable Pot – Legend of Zelda Inspired (Interactive Treasure Prop)
Step into the world of Hyrule with this Legend of Zelda–inspired breakable pot, designed in Fusion 360 and brought to life through 3D printing. Modeled after the iconic pots found throughout the series, this piece recreates the familiar thrill of smashing pots to discover what’s inside.
This pot isn’t just for display—it’s interactive, rebuildable, and designed to hold treasures like Rupees, coins, or other small collectibles.
📐 Design Overview
- Inspired by classic Zelda breakable pots
- Divided into six interlocking pieces
- Assembles into a solid pot using embedded magnets
- Breaks apart cleanly and reassembles easily
- Ideal for display, play, or themed collections
Inside, the pot can store Rupees or other small items, delivering an authentic Zelda-style treasure experience.
🧲 Magnet System (Important)
- Uses a total of 68 × 4 mm × 2 mm round neodymium magnets
- Each piece connects magnet-to-magnet on all touching faces
- Magnet use was essential to achieve:
- Clean break lines
- Rebuildable structure
- Consistent alignment
While the magnet count is higher than ideal, it was required for proper function. Fortunately, these magnets are commonly available in bulk packs, making the cost manageable. Or you can find them here https://us.store.bambulab.com/products/round-magnet?id=42102911074440
🖨️ Printing & Orientation Notes
- The six pieces are split across multiple build plates due to geometry and angles
- Top three pieces (pot opening) are printed lid-side down
- Reduces print time
- Minimizes supports
- Remaining pieces are oriented for similar efficiency
👉 Highly recommended: keep the default orientations for best quality, lowest print time, and efficient filament use.
🎨 Color & AMS Notes
- Initial prototype was printed in a single color to validate printability
- Final version uses multi-color printing with AMS
- Design includes a simple black band around the pot’s center
- Chosen for a clean, recognizable Zelda aesthetic
- Five pieces require multi-color printing
- Base piece remains single-color
⚠️ Important Assembly Instructions
Follow these steps carefully to maintain correct magnet polarity:
Step 1: Print One Piece at a Time
Start with the base piece.
Step 2: Insert Magnets into the Base
- Install the first 8 magnets into the base slots
- Ensure they are fully seated
Step 3: Maintain Polarity
- Place a temporary magnet on top of each installed magnet
- These guide polarity for the next piece
Step 4: Print the Second Piece
Print the next section of the pot.
Step 5: Align with the Base
- The two pieces connecting to the base will have 4 magnets each
- Carefully align before seating
Step 6: Seat Magnets
- With temporary magnets still in place, press the second piece’s magnet slots directly onto the base magnets one at a time
Step 7: Repeat
- Continue this process for the remaining four pieces
- Always use the assembled section to guide magnet polarity
Despite the complexity and magnet count, this design captures the Zelda aesthetic and delivers a fun, interactive treasure-hunting experience. I’m incredibly proud of how it turned out and hope you enjoy it just as much.
