A Basic Ball Joint
This simple ball joint can be used in many ways including to mount small objects to a surface or wall. I specifically included this model as it pairs perfectly with my collection of microcontroller cases for wall mounting.

Loosen the tightening nut to easily adjust the angle of the mount. Then tighten to secure.
You will need 2 small screws to attach the ball to the box (or something) and the base to the wall / surface. I use #4 wood screws of ¾ inch length (19mm). The screw's flat top diameter is under 6 mm and the screw's shaft is slightly less than 3 mm. About 15 to 19 mm length depending on your needs. The screw that attaches the ball to the box should be under 20 mm. Maybe 20 mm would work.
Non Magnet Option:
- You can use a screw and/or double sided tape to secure the Socket Base part to the wall / surface.
- If using double sided tape, you have an option in the “for Magnet Mount” profile for a Socket Base without a screw hole.
- For dry wall, double sided tape is recommended (with or without a screw).
- Attach the ball to the thing you are mounting and tighten the ring around the ball and socket.
Magnet Option:
- The “for Magnet Mount” profile has a Socket Base without a screw hole. This is better when using a magnet.
- The “for Magnet Mount” profile also has a “Magnet Holder” for a 20 x 3 mm magnet. This holder (with magnet) can optionally be glued or 3M taped to the Socket Base. Or simply attach a 20 or 25 mm magnet to the Socket Base.
- Then attach a matching magnet to the wall / surface. This can be done with or without a Magnet Holder.
- If you can find an iron or steel washer of the correct size, you can use one magnet and one washer. Most washers do not stick to magnets.
- Attach the ball to the thing you are mounting and tighten the ring around the ball and socket.
- Remember to SLIDE magnets on and off (sideways).
I have over 200 different box size and type variations.
