This model allows you to make a custom router template to put all kinds of mortises in doors and panels. You can generate mortises for mortise tenon joints, locks and bolts, door hinges etc.Â
Parameters
You can adjust these parameters:
Â
Width and length of the mortise.
Whether you want to use the template with a copy ring or a flush trim bit.
If you use a copy ring, you can enter the diameter of the ring and of the bit to automatically add a margin for the correct mortise size.
Enable or disable 12x8mm holes for track saw clamps.
Offset the mortise left or right (allows off center mortises, such as those for hinges).
Skirt width and height, optional slope for more sturdiness with less material.
Add more padding for your router to ride on.
Optional labels and center line.
Optional chamfering on top, inside and bottom.
Tolerance for the door or panel.
Custom label, write what you want so you know what your creation is for.

Print instructions
Material
If you want your template to last, print it in PETG. It will be more flexible, more durable, more heat resistant. PLA works fine if you need a template once or occasionally.
Infill
Generally you want to select a higher infill, e.g. 30%, I recommend the Gyroid pattern as it has good strength against compression in any direction, necessary as you will probably want to clamp the jig to the door or panel.Â
Track saw clamp option
If you have enabled the option to enable the track saw clamp holes, you need to make a choice:Â
Enable supports; add modifiers to only support the holes, otherwise the text labels will be supported too. Removing the supports can be difficult as the holes can be pretty long.
Disable supports; make sure you have sufficient part cooling enabled to manage the required bridging.
Print on its side, enable supports for the skirt, holes won't need supports, clamping will be less likely to separate layers. But you will need to remove more support material and it might cause a less smooth surface that will touch the surface of your project.
Labels in colour, without AMS
Put a pause on the 4th print layer, assuming you chose a 0.2mm layer height. This will allow you to print the first 3 layers in a bright colour, followed by the remaining layers in a darker colour, for good contrast and readability.Â
Â
When you change from a bright to a dark colour (or conversely), make sure to purge enough material to avoid contamination of your labels with the previously used colour.
