Mini Toy Train Skill Game

Try to keep the mini train on the tracks as it zooms around. A fun challenge of skill and balance.

A unique toy that also looks great on your desk or displayed. A real talking point sure to get the interests of anyone that sees it.

An easy print with a well designed layout to have minimal color changes and easy to assemble.

There is no additional parts required so you can start having fun straight away.

A few things to consider

The profile has been carefully optimized for peak performance using BambuLab PLA Basic filament. I wouldn't recommend modifying the profile as it may cause some problems with your print. One of the points to note is that the wheels are set to print with a very smooth outer layer to ensure they spin as freely as possible.

I also found that a slight rub over the top of the tracks with some fine (600+grit) sandpaper helped to get the train rolling really well.

Another point worth noting is to let the bed cool completely before removing the base plate. If it is removed to early you may encounter some war-page as it cools.

Assembly

Assembly is straight forward. the base of the train is held in with 2 printed pins. They are a tight fit so shouldn't need any glue but depending on your filament if they aren't completely tight a drop of super glue will hold them together. The wheels should clip straight in to the base and a light spray with WD40 on the axles can really get them spinning well although not necessary.

The station will just push onto the clips, just make sure the orientation is correct.

A more efficient color change method

I have also found that if you print the track out using the slicer to change colors at specific layers you can print this model with as little as 3 color changes.

To do this you will first have to clear the colors painted onto the tracks using the paint tab in the slicer.

Then you will have to slice the model as a single color and using the layer slider on the right, set the layers to each color as below,

Layer 10 to Green

Layer 13 to Brown

Layer 16 to Grey

Then re-slice and your model will have the correct color changes.

I hope you have as much fun with your Mini Train-set as I did creating and designing it.
