Comfortably holds 22 spools with space for plenty of desiccant. The best part is the integrated wheels. They roll smoothly on anything but thick carpet, so it's a breeze to pull out and stow away your filament collection. The gaps around the pegboard deck make it easy to pour desiccant beads in or out.
Printed Parts
6x Wheels
6x Wheel bushings
6x Wheel carriers
6x Spacers (2 corner A, 2 corner B, 2 center)
I recommend PETG or ABS for the wheel parts. PLA works fine for the spacers, but PETG/ABS will be more durable.
A 14x21" piece of pegboard with 1" hole spacing - Inexpensive at most hardware stores. You could also print this if you really want to.
6x M3x20mm machine screw (longer is fine)
6x M3 nut (nylon locking recommended)
12x #10 x 1/2" to 1" machine screw
12x #10 nut
6x #8 x ¾" countersunk wood screw - any similarly sized thread forming or wood screw would work. I like countersunk heads for a nice flush surface.
Desiccant beads - I use Dry & Dry blue. It holds up to 3qt/6lbs, but half that seems sufficient.
Assembly Instructions:
Insert printed bushings into wheels.
Insert wheels into wheel carriers and secure with M3 screws+nuts.
Drill 12x 7/32 or ¼" holes in the bottom of the box. The image below shows the placement of the spacers+wheels relative to the ribs on the bottom of the box. I recommend using a wheel carrier as a guide for drilling. Drill slowly to avoid cracking the box.
Align spacers and wheels with the holes, and secure with #10 screws+nuts. Be sure the orientation of each spacer matches the picture.
Pour in your desiccant.
Lay the pegboard on top and secure with 6 woodscrews into the chamfered holes of the spacers. They probably won't all line up perfectly, but they'll pull themselves into place as you tighten them.
Load up your filament spools! The best layout seems to be two lines of 8 vertical spools, plus 6 more laying flat either beneath or on top of the vertical ones.
I have some ideas for future updates. Will probably build another one soon as my collection grows (Bambu volume sales…) Let me know in the comments what you'd like to see.
