I designed this train set for my son as I wasn't very impressed with the existing wooden bullet train ("shinkansen") sets out there. It is modeled to resemble the 700 series trains that entered service in Japan in 1999. Build instructions are included in the pictures as well as in the PDF.
Two color schemes are uploaded:
- Nozomi: white and blue
- Filaments used: white, blue, black, silver, and gold
- Hikari: gray and yellow
- Filaments used: light gray, dark gray, black, and gold
A few things of note:
- This set has smaller-than-normal wheels, as the larger wheels typical of Brio-type trains would look too big.
- Instead of attaching each wheel with a screw, the wheels are press-fit onto a steel dowel pin for smoother operation. Glue is optional.
- Ensure the dowel pin axles are pushed fully into the wheels. I've included an “axle helper” on plate 2 to help with this.
- Pay attention to the polarity of the magnets when they are being screwed in!
Non-printed hardware consists of the following (for each 3-car set):
- 2x25 dowel pin: QTY 12
- M2.5x12 self-tapping screw: QTY 6
- M4x10 button head screw (machine or self-tapping): QTY 4
- 10x4x3 ring magnet: QTY 4
- 10 mm outer diameter, 4 mm hole diameter, 3 mm thickness
All of the above hardware parts are available in Maker's Supply, and the filaments I used are also listed below.
Enjoy! Let me know if you encounter any issues.
