Description

This is an upgraded version inspired by the original design. It features a scaled-down back plate to fit an 80mm Fan (rather than 120mm) and now has tight-fitting M3 bolts (eliminating the need for nuts and washers).

Additionally, the front plate is completely different inspired by the design of this fan guard by Jahplus. I then added a switch and socket mount for a standard small rocker switch and a DC jack that suits a 2.1 or 2.5mm jack so long as it uses a 13mm mounting hole. The hex nut used to fasten the DC jack will slot into place and thus make tightening the jack easier.

The fan cables then slot through a small hole. To wire this up, connect the negative wire of the fan to the negative tab on the DC jack, then the positive wire of the fan to one side of the switch, and the positive tab on the DC jack to the other side of the switch. Doesn't get much easier than that :)

It uses 4x M3 bolts to screw it all together, an 80x80x10mm active carbon filter from a fish tank or solder fume extraction filter replacement and two M3 screws on the back (along with the DC jack, 80mm PC fan and an SPST DC rocker switch).

Works surprisingly well, is fairly quiet and was made from spare parts (aside from the filter). Very small, portable and minimalistic.

Originally I loved the idea of just having a super simple design with no switches or plugs etc etc. But then I realised switches and plugs are very useful.
