Description

This is only a template! You need to add your own design either through engraving (as pictured) or embossing (via Bambu Studio)

A simple template for an NFC business card, which is split into two individually printable halves.

Design

The idea is to be able to mix materials and build plates for different surface textures on both sides. If you happen to screw up the engraving process, you can simply print one half instead of the entire thing. The NFC stickers are only embedded in the final step, and not during the printing process.

Measurements

Approximately ¾ of a regular credit card

  • Thickness: 0.9mm
  • Length: 80mm
  • Width: 50mm

Requirements

  • NFC Sticker. The ones pictured are these. They typically cost <20 cents in bulk from AliExpress.
  • Super Glue: Any will do
  • Laser Engraver (Optional)
    • You will require an infrared or fiber laser to achieve the prints shown!
    • The machine used to achieve the pictured results is an xTool F1 set to 100% @ 1500mm (IR)
  • Printer with flow rate calibrated.

Assembly

  1. Print both faceplate.step and base.step (or use the 3MF)
    1. Ensure layer height is set to 0.1mm
    2. Ensure “Only one wall” is selected for both first layer and top surface.
    3. Wait till your prints have completely cooled before removing them. Otherwise they'll be bent.
  2. Add your design to faceplate.step.
    1. You can engrave (as pictured) or emboss printed text/designs using Bambu Studio (See other user's designs specially this)
    2. As this part goes on top of base.step it can be as thick as you want. (Eg. you can add a HueForge painting as your faceplate)
    3. For engraving, you can use alignment_aid.dxf
    4. If your print fails or you screwed up the engraving, just reprint faceplate.step and try again
    5. You can reference the last picture on how it might look using different finishes. All were printed with no brand Matte PLA.
      1. Ironed (Leftmost. 3MF contains the ironing setting used. Very finicky due to layer height, print one at a time for best chances)
      2. FYSETC Carbon Fibre Plate (Centre)
      3. BIQU Cryogrip Pro Glacier (Rightmost. Unexpectedly glossy finnish vs Bambu Textured PEI)
  3. Add your design to base.step (Optional)
    1. In the example images, I've engraved a QR code here. Ideally whatever you emboss should be flush with the surface.
  4. Insert NFC Sticker into circular cutout on base.step
  5. Ensure edges of faceplate.step has no burrs and is smooth. This ensures it sits flush with the base.step
  6. Apply superglue
    1. Ensure you leave a small gap around the edges so it does not spill over.
    2. Do not apply in the recessed area meant for the NFC sticker. It is very thin and the superglue will seep through to the other side
    3. If you screw up this part, you can cut out the area around the QR code and extract the NFC sticker for another attempt.
    4. Use a flat object to apply pressure. There is 0.2mm of clearance. The faceplate should fit perfectly flush with the edges.

Other Notes

This was made for laser engraving in mind, as I could not achieve the details required for some of the smaller text. Have not tried 0.2mm nozzle. However, you should be able to emboss simple designs using Bambu Studio as the other users on this platform have done with for their own card designs.

It is not reccomended to print with 0.2mm or larger layer height, due to gaps between each layers which might leak super glue to the surface.
