My next plane kit card is the legendary F/A-18 Super Hornet, featuring the iconic Top Gun: Maverick livery! 

 

This twin-engine, carrier-capable fighter is the backbone of the U.S. Navy and was chosen as the star aircraft for the movie due to its power, agility, and combat versatility.

 

Fun Facts:

• The Super Hornet can fly at speeds over 1,190 mph (Mach 1.6) and is equipped for both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

 

• Unlike the original Top Gun (1986), where the F-14 Tomcat was the main jet, Top Gun: Maverick (2022) featured real F/A-18s, with Tom Cruise and other actors experiencing actual high-G forces in flight!

 

• The F/A-18 Super Hornet has a “stealthy” radar cross-section, making it harder to detect compared to older jets like the F-14 Tomcat.

 

• In Top Gun: Maverick, the actors trained to withstand up to 7.5 Gs in real F/A-18 flights to make the aerial scenes as realistic as possible!
