Interactive Earth Model with Layers

February 17, 2025
Description
This unique Earth model showcases the planet with a removable 1/8 section, revealing the internal layers (crust, mantle, outer core, inner core). Each layer is magnetically attached, allowing for easy assembly and exploration. A fantastic educational tool for learning about Earth’s structure!
Educational Background:
Understanding Earth's internal structure is fundamental in geology, geophysics, and environmental sciences. This model provides an interactive way to explore the composition and function of Earth's layers.
- Crust: The Earth's outermost layer, composed of solid rock, includes the continental and oceanic crust. It is where all life exists and where tectonic activity, such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, occurs.
- Mantle: Beneath the crust, the mantle makes up about 84% of Earth's volume. It consists of semi-solid rock that moves slowly, driving plate tectonics and causing geological phenomena like mountain formation and continental drift.
- Outer Core: Composed mainly of liquid iron and nickel, the outer core plays a crucial role in generating Earth's magnetic field through the process of convection.
- Inner Core: The Earth's innermost layer is a solid sphere made of iron and nickel. Despite its extreme temperatures, immense pressure keeps it in a solid state. The inner core contributes to the stabilization of the planet's magnetic field, which protects Earth from solar radiation.
This model offers a hands-on way to visualize these layers, making it an excellent tool for teachers, students, and anyone interested in Earth sciences. By allowing users to detach and examine each layer separately, the magnetic attachment system enhances interactivity and engagement, fostering a deeper understanding of Earth's composition and dynamics.
Needed parts: 12x Magnet D6x2 mm
Assembly instructions:
Glue the magnets on the bigger part, they can only fit to these specific holes.
Be aware to put the magnets in the correct orientation!
- Attach the different layers and the core in this order (you can also glue them)
Be aware to insert the layers specifically on the plates names “For Earth”!
For the smaller part arrange the following pieces in the same order (use a plane surface, e.g. table) and attach the flat parts on top.
Attach the magnets in the correct orientation.
Be aware to insert the layers specifically on the plates names “Layers for Core”:
- Enjoy your interactive globe!
