Description

This is a custom enclosure with a lid for a USB cable tester I recently purchased on AliExpress. The device is available with a simple transparent acrylic case, but that solution does not fully protect the PCB and isn’t particularly aesthetically pleasing. My enclosure is designed to protect the PCB from all sides, allow the tester to be quickly taken out for conducting measurements, and provide space for a small reference card with key information for identifying cables—something what is missing from the original product.

The included reference card features three tables:

  1. A guide for identifying the type and capabilities of the tested cable.
  2. An explanation of the function of each USB signal line.
  3. A table listing the current limits for different fast-charging protocols.

A PDF version of the reference card is available for download in the project files. After printing, cut out the section with the tables (ideally using a scalpel) and attach it to the lid of the enclosure.

The locking clip has been moved to a separate plate to prevent damaging the main enclosure in case it detaches during printing, even with a brim. If using an AMS (Automatic Material System), you can add custom text on the lid. The design has been tested with Bambu and Sunlu filaments, and the final version shown in the photos was printed using green “Parkside” filament from Aurapol to give it a tool-like appearance.
