Description

A version of the classic pinscreen / pin art fidget toy but with HEXAGONS! Everyone loves hexagons.

Difficult print! Tight tolerances only about .20mm between the pin and the hex board. Hard to get first layer adhesion (I tried like 3-4 times before success)

  • Clean the build plate thoroughly
  • Consider running calibration test beforehand
  • Slow down first layer speed

Multi color prints actually wouldn't be all that wasteful or crazy increase in time apparently, took my single color about 10+ hours and it says if I did multi color (plate 1 color, pins another) it would only be about 12 hours and not that much waste generated. Supposedly.

Test Print:

Included in the 3mf is a smaller test section of the hex pin screen that you can use to dial in your settings before the full print, as the full print is 10+ hours!

Fun little fidget toy by itself!

Releasing the pins

WARNING SHARP EDGES

  • The edges of the hexagons are sharp, be careful pressing them out. I did half with my fingers and thumbs and the rest with a blunt hard object to do the pressing. Didn't cut myself but still felt some sharpness.
  • Can damage the edges of the hexagons with tools, so also be gentle and precise with where you press
  • Might be able to “sand off” the bottom layer very slightly to release? As it is probably less than .10 mm attached to the plate. Might make the pins smoother when finished but also might allow the pins to fall out if overdone - so not sure if that's a good idea. Only about a .50mm chamfer holding them in.
