Once I had a bunch of Ikea Alex cabinets, a pile of gridfinity baseplates, and a dream. A magnet applicator tool that could blast through hundreds of magnets in a matter of minutes - a gatling gun of magnetic destruction.

Does it work? Not at all. It turns out that 500 magnets all facing in one direction creates a pretty powerful field that will pull out magnets that you apply to your baseplates or bins as you apply them.

It also turns out that a circular array of magnets with a tube in the middle creates a sort of 'rail gun" that propels magnets inserted into its centering, so when you depress the plunger hoping to apply a single magnet the whole strand of 50 magnets is liable to rocket out of the hole and across the room.
