Description

Tap a tune on the Tapophone!

The Tapophone is a simple instrument that is easy to print, pick up, and play! It works under the same principle as a Slapaphone but without the need of paddles as each note has a thin membrane on the top that you simply tap with your finger.

Note: Print this model in PLA.  I did all my testing with PLA and as long as you have a good first layer it works well. Some people have tried printing the model in PETG and have reported issues.  If you use another material and it works (or doesn't) please leave a comment to help out others!

Note: You need a good first layer for this instrument to work well. The membrane you tap to play is only one layer thick - if there are any gaps you may not get a good tone. Tips:

  • Properly clean your build plate before printing (e.g. with soap and water)
  • Wait until the model cools before removing from the build plate (so you don't rip the first layer)

Note: The labels are on the back side of the membrane. This means they will not be very bright, and you should use darker colors than the face of the instrument. This is by design. I tested with having them on the first layer (which does make them pop quite a bit) but over time the first layer would separate at the color borders.

If you enjoy this model please check out the rest of my musical instrument collection.

I hope you enjoy making some beautiful music with this instrument!

Thanks to @evilroda for suggesting the new name: Tapophone!

You can search online for 8-note melodies or songs to play, but here is one to get you started:
