Description

The idea of this puzzle is not new. Often they are industrially produced designs. Originally I had planned to make it from copper wire. However, I found out that it is almost impossible to bend a spiral with even spacing, not to mention bending it evenly round. Also, the wire, when viewed over its entire length, is too thin and would bend very easily. So I decided to design and print all parts.

There are different versions in the world, but this one is certainly unique!

Printed quickly ... also a nice little gift for friends!

You can make the spiral with one, two or three colors. Of course, the easiest way is to print in one color.

For those who work with the "Bambu Slicer" and know a little: in the "Bambu Slicer" there is the possibility to change colors  in different heights.

The height of the spiral is 4.8mm. To make sure the the color segments (3) get an even height, you can change the color every 1.6mm in the slicer (1.6 - 3.2).

The ring has a 0.15 mm opening, which makes it possible to integrate the ring into the spiral. After that, the opening should be closed with a little super glue.

The cutting point in the ring is not the same as in the photo. I have changed it a bit in the meantime to give a slightly larger gluing surface.

Print settings:

  • printer brand: Bambu Lab
  • printer: X1 Carbon
  • supports: No
  • resolution: 0,2
  • infill: 20%
  • filament brand: Prusa; ICE
  • filament color: Galaxy Black; Wintershine White, Romantic Red
  • filament material: PLA

Remark: As all parts are designed to fit very precisely, it may happen that you have to rework one or the other part a bit with sandpaper and/or cutter due to different dimensional accuracy of the printers and the different behavior of the filaments.

How to insert the rectangle:

To show how a puzzle is solved is a no-go for all puzzle freaks. But to solve a puzzle, it must first be made sharp. There are a few pictures of how the rectangle is inserted:
