DISCLAIMER:

I am not responsible if you cut yourself. I'll say that this is a prop model, and if you put real blades in and shave with it, you accept all responsibility for any accidents. 
 

Summary:

A double-edge safety razor I modeled in Blender and shave with. 

 

I use it with Astra Platinum blades, which fit perfectly for me. I printed the black parts in Elegoo Rapid PLA+, and the white parts in California Filaments Cloudy White PETG. 

 

Assembly and Printing

Assembly requires an M3 5-6mm¹ deep heat-set insert and an 8-10mm² M3 socket-cap screw. 

1: You can try for 3 or 4mm heat-set inserts, but it's not recommended.

2: Any screw that is long enough to catch plenty of threads will work. 

 

I would strongly recommend avoiding weaker filaments (silk PLA), as spinning the handle can pull down on the screw pretty hard and break the upper head (with any filaments, but especially brittle ones). It'll also explode if you drop it. PLA+ and PETG have given me good results. 

 

After printing, I'd recommend doing the following in order: 

  • Deburr any and all parts that need it (bottom of handle, edges of case typically for me).
  • Heat set the insert into the handle.
  • Assemble the head BLADELESS with the screw protruding. 
  • Screw down until tight. 
  • Heat the screw head and screw down a touch more.
  • Repeat until the screw head is flush.
  • If you put a blade in, you release me of any responsibility, should you cut yourself. 
    • Assuming you agree to the above, you would remove the screw handle, pull the lower head off the screw (this part can be hard), and put a blade in. Then you'd reassemble the razor. 
    • FOR ALL ASSEMBLY/DISASSEMBLY WITH A BLADE, make sure you keep the case on while tightening the screw down the last little bit.

I'd recommend printing without a brim except maybe on the handle. If your bed adhesion is good, you'll be fine.

 

Printed Parts

  • Handle: Needs a heat-set insert. Pretty self explanatory.
  • Case: Pretty self explanatory, it covers the razor so you don't cut yourself. 
  • Upper Head: Needs a screw melted into it slightly to sit right. 
  • Lower Head: Fairly aggressive. There's a considerable amount of blade exposed, but you'd still struggle to cut yourself deeply.
  • Open Lower Head: Effectively makes the razor a straight-razor. There's about 2mm of blade fully exposed.
    • This blade will mess you up badly if you aren't careful with it. Again, I am not responsible if you choose to put a blade in and cut yourself. By printing this model, you release me of any responsibility if you cut yourself. 

 

Shaving

I literally just use Barbasol shaving cream and shave in the shower. I've had 0 problems thus far. Every time I've accidentally given myself a small cut, it's been on my fingers because I was being stupid during assembly/disassembly.
