Description

I wanted a 100% 3D printed handle for my drill bit set to use for cleaning up screw holes, etc. on various 3D prints. My pin vise doesn't fit the 1/8" (~3mm) bits I often use, and the drill bits in my small metal drill handle slip when the chuck is hand tightened. I tried a couple of designs that are out there, but neither can hold the 1/8" bit without slipping.

Finally I found QuadeHale's drill stop design (a collar that prevents a drill bit from going too far into the material) using collets to grip the drill bit. His collet design, “loosely based on an ER20 collet” looked like a good place to start since collets can achieve a high gripping force without needing a lot of tightening.

I used his “Top Nut” with a chamfer added to make it nicer (hence “v2”) and his 1mm thru 13mm collets (odd-numbered). I added the even-numbered collets from ftaysse's remix for a mostly complete set. I also added daktylus's chamfered “Base Nut” in the raw files in case someone wants to use the collets as a drill stop. The Base Nut is used in place of the Handle in that case.

The handle is designed to store two extra collets. I only printed the sizes I typically use, which are the 1, 3 and 5 mm. All the sizes are included in the print profile; just turn off the ones you don't need.

By the way, I tried printing the collets in PETG, but they didn't grip as well as PLA. So all the parts were printed in BBL Tough PLA and generic PLA.
