Description
I came across the Yama game and fell in love playing it. I wanted to make my own for at home, so I spent countless hours creating and printing multiple version, before I was finally happy with the results and having an easy way to print everything one color at a time so others can enjoy it.
There are 2 profiles, one for ams use, but its only for coloring the debossed parts of lid and game board, all other parts are printed one color at a time. the second profile is not have coloring for the debossed parts.
I designed the cubes in such a way that you print the 3 sides in one color and the other 3 sides in a differntn color and they slide and snap together for assembly.
The only part that you need is a “608 2RS Ball Bearing” odds are you already have a these lying around as I do from other prints that needed them. (This is to make it a smooth spin of the board)
I have also attatched a PDF of the Game Instructions on how to play.
Introducing Yama: A Strategic Twist on a Classic
Yama, originally designed by Khanat Sadomwattana, draws inspiration from Japan's majestic mountains. The name "Yama" itself means "mountains," reflecting the game's 3D landscape and strategic depth. This abstract strategy game builds upon the timeless appeal of Connect Four, elevating it to new heights with a rotating board and triangular slots that challenge players to think in multiple dimensions.
Gameplay Overview
The objective remains straightforward: create a line of four cubes in a row of your color. However, Yama introduces a thrilling twist. The rotating board allows you to view your progress from three different perspectives, requiring you to adapt and strategize across multiple angles. Each cube has three sides of one color and three of another, ensuring that no matter how it's placed, one side will always reveal a different color than the other two.
Strategic Depth and Intuitive Design
While Yama is incredibly easy to learn, mastering it is a different story. The game's 3D aspect and the need to consider multiple viewpoints can lead to surprising turns and strategic challenges, even for experienced players. The components are designed to convey the rules intuitively, with cubes forming valleys that can either block opponents or secure victories.
Aesthetic Appeal and Versatility
I believe games should be as satisfying to look at as they are to play. With this version of Yama, I designed each component to look the part, from the cubes to the rotating board to the designs.
I strove to design the components in such a way that they convey the rules. The cubes are color such that no matter how you orient it one side will show a different color to the other two. The way placing three cubes in a cluster forms a valley for placement of the next level which covers up and block your opponent, or cliches your victory.
Yama is not just a game; it's a beautiful statement piece for any coffee table. Whether you're enjoying a casual match over coffee or engaging in a fierce game night showdown, Yama is perfect for two players. It offers a quick 10-15 minute play session or a more intense challenge, making it suitable for ages 12 and up.
How to Play
In Yama, simplicity meets complexity, offering a game that's both visually stunning and intellectually engaging. Can you master the art of shifting perspectives and emerge victorious?
