The Floating Light Palace of the Cat and the Girl(A digital extension design for Corcelain)

Project Context
This work is part of the MakerWorld x Corcelain collaboration project.
Corcelain is an open system that blends traditional Japanese porcelain craftsmanship with digital modeling. By integrating standardized screw holes into the porcelain body, it offers creators the freedom to design and attach customizable extensions.

My digital design is made specifically for this structure—proposing a new kind of add-on or base component to inspire more creative combinations.

Scene Description

On the base of a porcelain cup stands a palace bathed in shimmering light. Here, a little girl and her large black cat reside. Surrounding the palace is an open-air corridor, where soft light spills from the candlelit hall, illuminating the layered staircases and colonnades. The floor of the corridor glimmers like the night sky, adding to the dreamlike atmosphere.

Ascending the staircase into the grand hall, the candlelight flickers gently, making the palace appear as if it floats within a dream. Beyond the hall, a suspended bridge leads to an aerial attic, where a small terrace on the top floor opens directly to the night sky. Stepping onto a higher floating bridge, one arrives at a levitating sky pool—where the girl and her black cat often drift in a small boat, reflecting the stars as they float between light and shadow.

As night falls, the girl softly lights the lanterns, wandering through this floating dreamscape with her black cat...

Printing and Material Selection

  • I have uploaded an AMS version, where the corridor floor materials have been distinguished, allowing material switching without taking too much time. The result is also quite good if you choose single-color printing.
  • For the walls, I recommend using matte materials such as PLA Matte, PLA Wood, or PLA Marble, as they provide a soft and textured effect.
  • For the flooring, materials with a slight reflective quality can create a subtle contrast with the walls. Options like BASE PLA, PLA Silk, or PLA Metallic work well. Additionally, PLA Glow-in-the-Dark is an excellent choice, as it gives the floor a dreamy effect, further enhancing the overall atmosphere.

Support Removal

  • I used standard supports for the main part, which require flush cutter, tweezers (used to remove supports in narrow spaces), and a precision utility knife(used to cut off the residual support material on the surface) for removal.
  • Tree supports might be easier to detach, but do not use organic tree supports, as their contact points are not ideal in this case. The other types of tree supports appear to have similar contact surfaces to standard supports.

Assembly

  • Refer to the diagrams below for detailed assembly instructions.
