Description
This isn’t just a launcher—it’s a precision-engineered acceleration system that takes spinning tops and propellers to the next level! Combining a rack-and-pinion drive with a planetary gearbox, the Boost Launcher achieves extreme spin speeds far beyond typical gear ratios. The Gravity-Resistant Acceleration Clutch (GRAC) ensures frictionless (at least to ground), gravity-independent launching, making it possible to launch tops in any orientation—even upside down!
✅ 3.5+ Minutes Spin Time! – Thanks to optimized inertia, aerodynamics, and frictionless launching, expect spin times well over 3.5 minutes on a smooth surface.
✅ 15-Meter Propeller Launches! – The high-efficiency gearing sends the included propeller soaring up to 15 meters in the air.
✅ More Spin Potential? Absolutely! – With ideal conditions, spin times can go even higher—but at extreme speeds, even the smallest surface imperfections make the top go wild… which is also part of the fun!
✅ Gravity-Independent Launching – The GRAC system lets you launch from any angle—even upside down—without pressing the top against a surface.
✅ Extreme Acceleration System – The combination of rack-and-pinion mechanics + planetary gearing provides acceleration similar to much higher gear ratios.
✅ 100% 3D-Printable – No extra hardware needed. Just print, assemble, and launch!
Traditional launchers rely on pressing the top against a surface to release it, losing valuable energy to friction. The GRAC system completely eliminates this issue by:
Instead of relying purely on a high gear ratio, the Boost Launcher combines rack-and-pinion drive mechanics with a 4:1 planetary gearbox, delivering acceleration comparable to much higher-ratio gear systems.
Maximized Rotational Inertia: By placing most of the mass at the outer edge, the top and propeller store more energy, boosting spin time.
📌 Print in PLA, PETG, or ASA for best results.
📌 One build plate for the entire launcher!
📌 Assembly Steps:
(⚠️Remove Support on the inside of the clutch⚠️) |
⚠️ Before inserting, break the 4 Planets of the gear assembly free by rotating them. The tolerances are very tight so some force may be needed ⚠️ If you have issues I have added a printing profile for the gears with higher tolerances for easier freeing of the gears. |
(you can now add some lubrication if needed) Tip: move the assembly back and forth with the puller to free it up fully for extra performance |
1️⃣ Insert the Puller – Make sure to insert it on the side where the arrow on top is pointing. ⚠️ (Incorrect insertion may prevent proper engagement.)
2️⃣ Attach the Spinner or Propeller – Twist it onto the launcher in the correct direction so the clutch engages. ✅ Test it: Rotate the launcher 360°—the spinner/propeller should stay attached. If it falls off, try twisting it the other way. (Need help? Drop a comment!)
3️⃣ Aim Carefully – Point the launcher in your desired direction. In case of the spinner do not contact the surface you want it to spin on. Just hover a few millimeters above the intended surface ⚠️ Ensure no people, pets, or breakable objects are in the way!
4️⃣ Launch! – Pull the handle firmly and quickly—then watch as your top spins for minutes or your propeller soars up to 15 meters! 🚀 The faster you pull the higher it will go :)
Updates:
03/23/2025 - added a printing profile for higher tolerances at the planetary gear assembly in the rare case you have issues with the original tolerances which are tested working with PETG and PLA on a A1 mini & some updates in the instructions
Happy Launching 🌀
