Description
Self watering planter:
Explanation:
Overwatering plants can cause root rot, but what many know as root rot is in reality soil rot. To prevent soil from rotting, it should not be permantently submerged into water. This planter has a small shaft that can be filled with leca or something else that is very good at absorbing water (but doesn't rot like synthetic cotton, rockwool etc..). This material will slowly transport the water up to the soil, so the soil will always retain water without being over-saturated.
The top and bottom are designed to tightly fit together so the water doesn't easily evaporate, and the entire thing can be lifted without the bottom falling off.
So far I have tested it for germinating pepper seeds, and I only needed to water it once a month, compared to once every 3 days in another planter in the same room. This greatly increased my germination rate since watering is easily forgotten and 1-2 days of drought is enough to kill fresh seedlings.
