Description

I have created a variation of this trash bin that rotates 360 degrees so it can be completely under the desk, out, or halfway to push items off the desk into the bin.  The model is here:

My wife wanted an open-top desktop garbage can hanging from the side of the desk so here’s my interpretation.  Please read before your print.  😊

This is a derivative of my heavy-duty backpack holder for your desk.  Please check out that model if you are interested.

There are three parts:

-The can with an attached mounting point

-The bag retainer ring in two tolerances: .15MM and .2MM

-The clamp

Printing in esun PLA+, the .15MM tolerance was better for me in terms of how tight it holds.  For less accurate filament or a looser fit, the .2MM is the better option.

The can is approximately 8 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide.

The can has a beveled mount that slides cleanly and fits flush into the desk mount.  Perhaps I’ll make other things that use this mount as it is designed to be printed vertically or horizontally without supports so it is very versatile.

For the can, I used fuzzy skin but I also used a modifier to prevent the skin from printing on the mounting block as well as the top 15MM of the can so the retainer ring slides on/off without getting hung up.   I believe fuzzy skin will not work on the mount/receiver so I would avoid that area as it will throw off the tolerances.

For strength I used 15% infill and 3 walls on the can and 25% gyroid and 4 walls for the mount. Both seem more than sufficient.

For trash bags, I ordered ½ gallon bags from amazon made by Jayen and they work perfectly.

As a last note I always recommend printing each object separately.  When your print head moves back and forth, it gives the model unequal cooling times at each layer and can result in fine lines in the model where some areas cool faster than others.

Please if you have any issues or concerns with the model, reach out to me.
