Description
Angle Finding Jig for the Eclipse-style honing guides for chisels and plane blades. This jig uses an adjustable block that is fixed in place with positive stops for each angle. Simply untighten the screw, adjust the block to your desired angle, tighten the screw, and push your chisel/plane blade edge against the block and lock the blade in the honing guide. Bottom tabs included to register your guide securely against a workbench or table.
Plane Blade (Top) Location (25°-40°) and Chisel (Bottom) Location (25°-40°) stops have been included and should be within ±1 degrees of the indicated angle. The Plane blade location angles are labelled on the left of the jig. Chisel location angles are labelled on the right.
NOTE: The channels for Plane angle 30 and Chisel angle 25 overlap. Plane angle 30 can be achieved by tightening the block to the FRONT of the channel. Chisel angle 25 is achieved by securing the block to the BACK of the channel. Refer to the angle labels on the side of the jig.
A note on blade thickness: The eclipse honing guide is sensitive to blade thickness. Plane angle distances are calibrated to a 1/8 inch (0.125 inches) plane iron. If you are using a thicker iron, the actual angle will likely higher (up to 5 degrees higher). This also may be true if you use the jig with thicker mortising chisels.
IMPORTANT: The sliding nut is print-in-place! You will need to press FIRMLY towards the top of the jig to release it and allow it to slide smoothly in the rails before assembly. Refer to the diagram below:
Printed in parts and some minor assembly required. Be sure to remove the brim from the body. Align the nut with the block using the screw. Refer to the diagram below.
PLA was sufficiently strong for regular use. For additional durability for the adjustable block, consider printing in PETG.
Recommend washing your plate or using plate glue to ensure a clean print.
