Description

I really liked this model https://makerworld.com/en/models/580423-owl-glasses-holder#profileId-501306 by YB Concept however I do not like multi-color prints as they can be very wasteful.

My first attempt to recreate it was this model I published earlier. However, that model's eyes have the same curvature as the body, thus the nose piece of a pair of glasses would not be able to rest on the owl's beak.

With this model, after a lot of boolean tinkering in Shapr3D, I managed to recreate a suitable convexity in the eye sockets that would allow a nose piece to dig into the space of the model's body and would thus allow fitting glasses all the way down. I am finally satisfied with this work!

Boost MeThis took a lot of modelling time in cad. If you like it, please support me with a boost!

What types of glasses could this support?

Because of the distance between the beak and the temple rest, not all types of glasses would fit into this model.

  • ✅ glasses with thin metal temples (as in the picture)
  • ❌ glasses with flexible cable temples, as their spring-like quality pushes glasses of the model
  • ❌ glasses with thick plastic temples, such as sunglasses

Printing instructions

  • The profile is provided as a single plate with multiple parts.
  • If you have AMS, you can print it as-is;
  • If you don't have AMS, simply toggle each object and print them separately;
  • I used PLA matte for all colours except for the orange, which is plain PLA.

Assembly instructions

Use a few drops of super-glue to combine eyes, pupils and beak.
