Superserter: 100% Printable Threaded Insert Press

The Superserter! A 100% 3d printable, Gridfinity compatible, threaded brass insert press. Printable on a single X1C size build plate with no supports!

I needed a brass threaded insert press and wanted one that was entirely 3d printable - I couldn't seem to find an existing solution that didn't require additional off the shelf rods, bearings, or other hardware… so I decided to make one myself and now I'm sharing it with everyone!

This whole thing was designed around the $10 soldering iron linked below. I chose that one because it is cheap, offers compatibility with the insert mandrels, isn't a weird shape, has a digital temperature control, AND an on/off switch right on the handle which allows me to leave the whole thing set up and plugged in without having to leave the soldering iron on. 

That said, I also included ram components with two different bore sizes as well as an array of spacers to hopefully fit whatever soldering iron you already know and love. The "standard" ram has a bore of 19mm with optional TPU bushings for 18mm and 17mm... the "large optional" ram has a bore of 24mm with TPU bushings at 23mm, 22mm, and 21mm.

I guess I ended up with a gap at the 20mm size but I could always make another bushing if that happened to be the size that was needed… if that's the case, leave a comment!

There are 4 base options, one stand alone and one gridfinity - both of which are optioned in either one color with a "shadow' target or two color contrasting target choices.

There are also some optional TPU components for handle stops and more grippy feet.

There is also a shorter tower option if you spend most your time doing very small parts to improve rigidity at full extension and allow better use of the optional ram stop.

There's also an optional ram stop to help provide a tactile stop point when pressing in the inserts to prevent over-insertion. 

I tried to think of every usecase where this tool would be useful but if I missed any, please leave a comment and I'll collect design ideas for V2!
