Description
This was designed to maximise storage space in my workshed. Since I primarily use Rust-Oleum spray paints, the measurements were based on that can size. However, this dimension seems to be quite common, as I have also been able to store other brands such as Krylon, as well as isopropyl cans and air blasters.
As with most of my designs, the secondary goals (after functionality) are minimising filament, reducing print time, and avoiding supports. This often informs the aesthetic as well.
I was able to reduce the amount of material by relying on the small convex groove at the base of most cans to hold them in place, rather than using excessive support underneath to bear the weight. The hexagonal base allows you to align the cans in the most space-efficient way on your wall.
I'd like to see if the size of the lip can be reduced even further without affecting the functionality of the model so I've added a Fusion 360 parametric file. Feel free to remix and experiment.
