3D Benchy BB Gun (3DBenchyBBG)!

 

This is my take on turning the 3DBenchy into a working BB Gun!  It shoots, and is very fun to play around with.  I think the pictures are pretty self explanatory, and it was a lot of fun to design.

 

DISCLAIMER: This is meant to be a toy, not for unsupervised children, never aim at a person or animal. Enjoy it, and always use proper safety!

 

This doesn't require an AMS, but it does require a spring. For more control over the BBs not falling out of the stack when aiming, you can add an optional magnet, which the print profile already has a pause for during the print. This also uses a tiny bit of filament to hold the barrel in place.

Features:

• Uses normal BBs you'd find for any bb gun.
• Can hold up to 9 BBs in the 3DBenchy Stack, but it does work best as a single shooter.
• Uses a spring for the firing mechanism, and can accommodate a number of spring dimensions (see assembly)
• Can add a 6x2mm magnet to hold the BBs in place while firing.  This is optional, but I'd recommend having it in place for better control.
• Uses a piece of filament during assembly to hold the barrel in place. This also allows you to switch out different barrels or springs as desired.

Assembly (See video above for simple visual assembly):

• Print the parts in desired colors. PLA is fine. 
• During print, there will be a pause, if you want to add a magnet, place a 6x2mm magnet into the cavity during the pause, make sure it's all the way in, flush to the part so the printer will print over top of it. (see picture!)
• Add a spring onto the firing pin. The spring dimensions are tolerant:
  • For spring wire thickness, you can use anything from .4-.8mm.  I'd recommend around .6mm
  • For spring length, you can use anything between 12-20mm. I'd recommend around 15mm.
  • For spring outer diameter, you can use anything between 5-7mm. I'd recommend 6mm.
  • What spring you use, will determine how far the bb will shoot.  It's fun playing around with different ones to see.
• Insert the firing pin into the Benchy Body, grip side first (grip is the longer side with a little notch at the end).
• Then insert the barrel, make sure the bb loading hole goes in first, this will line up the locking pin hole.
• Use filament through the locking pin hole to lock the barrel in place. Snip it flush.
• Done!
