Fun fact: in Canada, the police can ticket you for having anything obstructing the view through your windshield!
This is the solution to easily move your cellphone away from the windshield.
Boost MeIf you find this handy, throw me a boost. They are very much appreciated!
This is a remix of a ball-mount I found on Cults. The original had a 1" ball, and was meant for some sort of RAM mounting system.
I needed a smaller ball, so that I could re-mount my truck's cellphone holder on the dash (instead of on the window)…
My vehicle has a pretty typical windshield phone-mount from Amazon. The ball size on these things seem to be standard - the ball size also matches a vent-mount I have, as well as a second (older) window mount I have.
I made 3 different copies in total to get the ball-size perfect. I also added a bit of reinforcement to the base of the mount.
It grips my phone-holder really well.
If you need to tweak the ball-size a bit, just open up the print profile, switch it to “objects” mode, and you can easily re-size the ball as necessary.
You can use this mount virtually anywhere, since the base is nice and small. There are screw holes for mounting. If you decide to use screws, I HIGHLY recommend that you know exactly what is behind the dash where you plan to drive those babies home!
I used strong, 2-way mounting tape for mine. You could also use epoxy, I suppose (if you really don't care about what you are mounting this to).
I printed my last one in PETG (for a bit of heat resistance). If I have any issues with the summertime heat, I will re-print it in ABS (or ASA for added UV protection.
I mounted this on the dash in a 2011 Ford Expedition (shown in the pictures). Post your install pics too!
