xmas ornament collection

intro

i made this collection to get rid of al the old boring ornaments. my models uses the power of print in place to make your tree more interesting. for each of the four models I made different tolerances (after each name stands …tol this is the tolerance) for different machines or uses like scaling or a press fit or glue. 

spinning star

I made two different stars, one with 3 pieces and one with 2. this is print in place and a great ornament. There is a hole in one of the arms for some string trough there. I made different tolerances to scale it how you want.

I strongly recommend a brim, because it can come lose and kill your print or it can warp. Ironing is a good idea for a nice top service.  

articulated star

Everybody likes articulating stuff, so why not putting it in your tree. Again this shows the power of 3D printing. I didn't get a really smooth motion, but with a better tuned printer it would be smooth.

There isn't much special here accept a good layer adhesion and ironing for a nice top surface. 

Angel

Christmas is also about angels, so I made some. this is a tree part design the wings, the body and the ring. use the 0.1 tolerance for a press fit or to scale it up. I made two different wings, one embossed and one debossed. the ring needs to sit really tight or glued in otherwise it will fall out of the tree.

 for the body I strongly recommend using the variable layer height because it saves print time and hides the ugly stepping. for the wings ironing is a good idea. 

bell

the bell is my favorite of these designs it's of course print-in-place. it works with two interlocking rings and a ball attached to one of then. here I made also some higher tolerances because it needs to spin freely. I printed 0.6 tolerance and that worked really good. layer adhesion is really important here because the stick is quite small but it's protected by the shell, so it's not likely to breek.

the ball hasn't a big bodem so a brim is maybe useful, I succeeded without one but that doesn't mean everyone will. and also here is the variable layer height great in hiding stepping.
