Description
Traditional removal tools depend entirely on applying force to the lock ring and forcefully pulling on the tube for extraction. This often created a sense of potential breakage due to the excessive force required to pull on the tubes. In contrast, this innovative remover eliminates the need for tugging. The upward force generated by the tool on your fingers gripping the tube is transferred directly to the lock ring. Once adequate pressure is applied to the lock ring, it disengages, allowing the tube to be swiftly and effortlessly removed from the hub. Initially, I considered adding a mechanism to the top handle to secure and hold the tube, but during testing, I realized the device required minimal pressure to hold the tube. Adding such a mechanism would have been an unnecessary step for the user. And it can be done with a hub protector attached!
There are 2 profiles, one includes supports at the tube catch, as these are easier to remove than the strings. I doubled the size of the pin at the pivot but did not add supports there since the strings are easier to remove than the supports in this area.
V1.0 - No supports, 5.71 grams of filament, 19 min. print time on my A1 mini.
V2.0 - Supports at tube catches, 6.17 grams of filament, 22 min. print time on my A1 mini.
After printing, it will be necessary to work the tool to break apart the strings in the pivot created by the absence of supports. This process requires minimal, though slightly more pressure than is needed to remove the tubes. Some strings will be present in the tube catches, unless you used the V2.0 profile, but they should be easily removed with needle nose pliers.
Start with the device closed at the tube catch end.
Push the tube into both half rounds on the device so that the device is resting on the lock.
Next hold the tube at the top of the tool and squeeze hard enough to keep the top arm of the device from sliding up the tube. It takes very little pressure to hold the tube.
While holding the tube at the top of the device squeeze the arms together and the tube will pop out of the lock.
Could it be any easier!
