Description
The Sandpaper Rack
The most over engineered sandpaper storage rack on Maker World! This rack has been completely redesigned to be 100% printable! No hardware required!
About the model : This model was originally created by MadebyA2 https://www.printables.com/model/57131-hexagon-a4-paper-tray-modular-design It was for full size 9x13 sanding sheets and required 28 M3 fasteners per level to assemble! It was remixed and brought over to Maker World by Hifimagog https://makerworld.com/en/@hifimagog . Hifimagog created the dowels that replaced the m3 screws and bolts used in the original. However, 4 M3 screws where still needed to assemble each layer boards.
So what's new?
Added wall mounting option
Everything has been pre-sliced and prepared for 17 layers. All the items have been grouped together for what is needed per layer. If you need less layers then just click and delete. Plate #2, #5, and #8 print with supports and are already configured. Do not use brim on dowels. It is sliced for PETG-HF, but mainly default filament settings. The only real change is 3 wall loops.

Assembly
Side Plates- Insert the smaller section of the dowel into the side plates first, making sure the offset of the dowel is going in the same direction (see pictures) - It is a press fit, you will needs pliers! I pointed all of the side dowels towards the back of the rack.
Back Plates - Insert the smaller section of the dowels into the back plates. For these, make sure the offset is going in opposite directions (see pictures) - It is a press fit, you will needs pliers!
Assemble the side and back plates onto the levels - It is a press fit, you will needs pliers!
Insert grit tags onto levels as needed
Mounting Options
Multiboard Mounts - There is a left and right side mount for multiboard. They are labeled in the “objects tab” as “L” and “R”. They mount the same way as the rest of the back pieces with the dowels facing outwards (opposite of each other.) Only 1 set of multiboard mounts are necessary as they hold the rack to the wall very well. USE GLUE FOR THESE 4 DOWELS
For a “just in case” I have also made “locking mounts” for the bottom of the rack as well. These will secure the bottom to the multiboard. These are optional. Note - these are designed for the full 17 layer rack to match up with the multiboard peg holes. I made these pieces a bit smaller so the dowels poke out. When pressing on them with pliers it will mushroom out the dowel ends locking the tabs on.
Wall Mounts - These are simple wall mounts I made to accept a washer and be screwed to whatever wall you like. They are the same as the back plates and are installed in the same way
This Rack is a lot of fun to build and very strong. I hope you have as much fun building it as I did. If you need a different mounting option please let me know. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this project. Thank you!
Notes - The only glue required in this model is for the 4 dowels on the multiboard main mounts. The bottom multiboard locking mounts, side plates, and back plates do not need glue.
In case you are wondering about fitment for sanding discs. Below is 5" , 6" , and 7" discs in the rack.
Multiboard components were used in this model.
For creating the multiboard mount I used 20 mm, Pegboard Click Hook that can be found here - https://thangs.com/designer/Multiboard/3d-model/20%20mm%2C%20Pegboard%20Click%20Hook-973904
