Description

Armored Fidget Spinner X

This is a mechanical fidget spinner with a unique twist: when spun, the armored plates fan outward, then snap back into place as the spinner slows. You can also slide your finger across the spinning plates to close it manually — it's as satisfying as it sounds.

✅ IMPORTANT NOTES – READ BEFORE PRINTING

I want you to have success as much as you do. so please reach out with any questions or issues, I'll respond fast.

This model requires bearings and magnets to function as designed. If you skip these parts, it will not work properly.

You also must:

  • Clean your bed surface (brims help, but a dirty bed = failed prints)
  • Use decent filament (brittle or cheap stuff = broken parts)
  • To address variation between magnet strength there are two versions. One for weaker magnets and one for stronger magnets.
  • The Amazon Link Contains weaker magnets while Bambu lab sells stronger magnets

🔧 Required Parts

  • 12x 6×2 mm Magnets
Buy on Amazon - Use Weak Magnet Version
  • 1x 608 Ball Bearing (spinner-grade recommended)
    Buy on Amazon
  • Glue (for securing magnets)
  • (Optional) Lubricant (to reduce break-in time)

🎨 Filament Recommendations

MaterialPerformance Summary
PLA BasicStrong, smooth, breaks in quickly, highly recommended
PLA MatteStrong, grippier, longer break-in time, works great once loosened
PLA SilkLooks and works great, but brittle — use only if you don’t plan to drop it
PETGStrong, longer break-in time, works great once loosened

🖨️ Printing Instructions

  • Prints in 3 pieces:
    • Main Body
    • Handle Plug
    • Handle Socket
  • Designed for 0.12mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle
  • Print time is approximately 3 hours
  • Brim points are added to help bed adhesion
    • Remove if your bed adhesion is reliable
    • Clean your bed before printing — this helps more than any brim

🧩 Assembly Instructions

(Refer to the assembly video below for visuals)

  1. Prepare the Parts

    1. Remove all brim points from the main body and handles
      1. Look at the print preview to see where they are, they may not be obvious.
      2. You may want to use tweezers to help.
    2. Wiggle the armor plates to loosen them — they should move freely.
  2. Install Magnets

    1. Each armor segment has two small flaps that opens with 2 magnet cutouts — follow these steps carefully:
    2. Open the Outside flap on a segment to expose the magnet pocket inside.
    3. Insert one magnet into the hole on the inside/center — this becomes your inner magnet.
    4. Stack two additional magnets on top of that one — these are temporary spacers.
    5. Close the flap — one of the spacer magnets will slide into the outer magnet hole on the body.
    6. Remove the top (unused) spacer magnet.
    7. ✅ You’ll now have two magnets perfectly aligned — one inside the flap, one in the body.
    8. ⚠️ Make sure the magnet polarity is correct and pulls the plates shut!
  3. Install Bearing

    1. Push the 608 bearing into the center of the spinner body.
  4. Assemble Handle

    1. Push the “plug” side of the handle through the center of the bearing.
    2. Snap the “socket” side onto the plug, aligning the hex cutout.

🔧 Break-In & Tuning

  • Depending on the filament, some hinges may be stiff at first — gently work them loose.
  • Break-in time varies by material:
    • PLA Basic: quick
    • PLA Matte: slower
    • PLA Silk: fast but fragile
  • Add lubricant for smoother action and faster break-in.
  • Continue to use the spinner to break it in.
  • The goal is to get all hinges to open and close automatically.
