Description
After printing swatch after swatch just to keep track of different filament colors, I started wondering, isn’t there an easier way? That’s what led me to this simple idea: why not just use a real piece of the filament itself?
This tag is designed to do exactly that. It features a side slot where you can insert a small piece of filament, giving you a true, no effort color reference without needing to print anything.
There's also plenty of space to write down important info like brand, material type, color, and either print temperature or a custom ID number.
It’s quick to print, easy to use, and perfect for keeping your filament collection organized without wasting time or plastic.
Print the Filament Tags
Use white filament to print a bulk lot of tags
Insert a Piece of Filament
Either cut a small piece (5–6 cm) or use straight from the roll of the filament you’re labeling. Slide it into the side slot.
Trim the End
Use flush cutters to snip off any excess so it sits neatly in the holder.
Create a Label
Use the included label template (print your details), or write by hand on a piece of paper or sticker.
Attach the Label
Stick it onto the tag using:
That’s it! You’ve got a clean, compact tag with a real color swatch and all the key info at a glance.
If this project sparks a lot of interest, I’ll definitely keep developing it, adding new features, improving the design, and maybe even creating variations. Your comments, feedback and support would mean a lot!
