The MiG-31 is a Soviet long-range interceptor developed in the 1970s to replace the MiG-25. Designed to defend vast airspaces like Siberia, it can fly at speeds over Mach 2.8 and at high altitudes, making it one of the fastest combat jets ever built. Equipped with a powerful Zaslon phased-array radar—the first of its kind on a fighter—it can track multiple targets at once and engage enemies from long distances using R-33 missiles. The MiG-31 is still in service with the Russian Air Force and continues to be upgraded for modern threats, including hypersonic missile roles.
