This is a replacement upper spray arm locking pin for the KitchenAid (made by Whirlpool) Superba dishwasher, model KUDS01DJWH0 (and possibly others using the same friction-fit system). The original part is discontinued, so I reverse-engineered and iteratively prototyped this solution—17 versions later, it snaps together beautifully and I imagine it should last longer than the original OEM wearable part. But if it doesn't, it only costs pennies to print!

  • Designed for functional strength, dishwasher heat resistance, and proper spray arm rotation
  • Uses a two-part snap-fit system: the male pin flexes and locks into the female body with a crisp, secure click
    • (this is better than the original, which used a teardrop shape which eventually wears enough to pop off)
  • Final design tested in ASA
    • PLA is not recommended due to the extreme heat of a dishwasher sanitation cycle!
    • PETG may work, but ASA or ABS are better. Use PETG at your own risk.
  • Internal geometry avoids support material entirely for faster, cleaner prints
  • Snug fit, but still serviceable (you can pull it apart if needed)

Tested under real dishwasher conditions with excellent results.

Printing Tips:

  • Print both parts vertically
    • The female part is printed upside down to avoid internal supports due to the inner lip.
  • I printed in 0.2 mm layer height…just because I forgot to set it to 0.16 (which was my intention) and it worked fine.
  • At least 4 perimeters for structural strength
  • Material: ASA or ABS for best longevity; PETG acceptable; avoid PLA for heat resistance
  • I printed mine very slow using the “slow first layers” option in Orca Slicer, set to 44 layers.  Bambu Studio doesn't have that setting from what I can see. Switching to slow mode after print starts can't hurt. It's a fast print even so.
