A Better Blokus Box

Everyone loves a good game of Blokus, but nobody loves the crappy cardboard box that the game comes in!

I decided to remedy this once and for all by creating a Better Blokus Box.

Included in this model is:

• A box and stylized lid for the entire game
• Individual boxes for the four colours ("bits boxes")

The bits boxes fit perfectly inside the game board, so if you don't have a large enough printer (eg. H2D) and just want to replace the zip-lock bags with these bits boxes, you'll still be able to use the game's original cardboard box.

The lids of all the boxes are held to the boxes themselves with 6 x 3 mm (diameter x height) cylindrical magnets, with the main box using two stacked magnets in each corner (for extra holding strength). So to print the entire set, you'll need:

• 8 x magnets for each bits box (including the lid)
• 12 x magnets for the main box (including the lid)

Which comes to a total of 44 magnets. The uploaded print profile has pause points for each of the models, which will allow you to add the magnets before continuing the print. Be careful of their orientation!

Printing notes:

These models are intended to be printed with a layer height of 0.24mm. I advise not deviating from this, as doing so may muck up the colouring for the tiles.

Also, as the lid is so large, it can be quite a challenge to print the multiple colours, even on a large printer like the H2D. My approach to this was to print the lid in stages:

1. Print all of the coloured tiles, using the BLOKUS logo space for the prime tower
2. Carefully remove the prime tower without touching any coloured tile
3. Print the black parts of the BLOKUS logo, with ‘z hop when retract’ (in the filament settings in BambuStudio) set to >2mm to ensure that the nozzle doesn't clip the tall parts of the coloured tiles
4. Print the rest of the lid in white, with ‘z hop when retract’ set to >2mm

This worked but was a little tedious. You could get away with printing the whole thing in one go (with two AMS's) if you turn off the prime tower, but I didn't want to risk the potential negative effects of doing so.

Note that in order to get this project to upload the MakerWorld, I've had to disable the prime tower (Global Process Settings > Other > Enable Prime Tower). I'd recommend turning it back on, especially for the bits boxes, as they have plenty of room for the prime tower.

If you can think of a better way to print the lid, I'd love to know! It'd be great if we could re-shape/size the prime tower, but that doesn't appear to be possible yet…
