Description

This is what i call the “Safe Mag”.  It is designed to be a lock and range flag for your rifle using the magazine well.  I personally hate the cable locks; this replaces those and only allows the bolt to move about ½" if it releases during transport.  Safe Mag uses the 7/8 arcade style locks as you see in one of the pictures, remove the locknut and other hardware it comes with but keep the cam nut, you'll need to flip it over so that when you engage the lock the key can be removed, not the other way around as will be the case in this assembly.  In my pictures you'll see a small hole in the main shaft, that is for a small 2mm approx., pin to help secure the shaft to the lock shaft, you'll need to drill that out if you chose to do that.  I did not and it has not been a problem, but I did use a good amount of ca glue between the main shaft and the lock shaft.  the pinion gear is press fit onto the main shaft.  the rack gear rides in a track in the body side.  make sure you have the gears aligned in the back “unlocked” position and it functions correctly before you secure the body sides together.  I used 3mm rod approximately 20mm long as alignment pins and used e6000 glue to adhere it all together.  also use e6000 to glue the lock into the body, it's a tight fit.   just lay a good bead down and squish it all together.  when assembled and installed in the mag well is can't come apart.  the sides can be printed vertically or horizontally, I have done both, vertically looks better, both function the same.  it may seem silly to print a lock, but it does satisfy the tamper resistant requirement and if you damage the lock, you make it even harder to access.  when engaged the lock pushes a solid shaft into the bore making it impossible to pull out, that shaft is also inaccessible.  so, you can't cut it off.  if you rip the lock out somehow you won't be able to turn the shaft again making it stuck.  and because the bolt must be locked back you cannot separate the lower from upper to remove it.
