Description

Plenty of us have memories of this little yellow circle eating up our coins. Thanks to this project, he still can!

Video Preview:

Here I've posted for you a fun way to collect your coins (sized for standard US coins - pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters).
After assembly, simply drop in your coins, and watch them take a unique path to Pac-Man's mouth! There are 2 main paths each coin may take, but the trajectories vary each time for a fun experience.

Printing:

Printed on a Bambu Lab P1S with 0.4mm nozzle on the Bambu Cool Plate (SuperTack) and the Bambu Textured PEI Plate.

Filaments used are all Bambu PLA Basic and Bambu PLA Matte. See them all listed at the bottom of the page in the Bill of Materials.

You can kind of use what you want though, with the exception of the Coin Slot.

I highly recommend NOT using matte filament for it due to the bridging required!

Unless you have 2 AMS units, I recommend printing the ghosts 1 or 2 at a time. However, there was a glitch in my slicer, where every time I printed 2 ghosts, the first one came out with bad quality pupils. Unfortunately, you cannot fix this by using a prime tower unless you only print one at a time (print-by-object doesn't support prime towers). You could just print them all by layers, but that would be very time-consuming and wasteful with all the color swaps! Sorry about this! Feel free to let me know if you have a solution/workaround!

A few parts are optional:

  • Coin Slot Bridging TEST - Highly recommended to print this before the actual Coin Slot if you are not confident of the bridging.
  • Back Cover - You may want to use this if you aren't going to be placing the bank against a wall. It keeps Pac-Man from sliding out the back.
  • Secret Box - Exactly what it sounds like. It's just box without handles accessed from the backside to fill the empty space.
  • Plate Reskin - You can use this if you changed your mind about the surface finish or material. I used this for my build. It's the only part I printed on my Textured PEI Plate.

Assembly:

Prepare for quite the build. You will NEED GLUE to put the (many) parts together! They DO NOT press-fit! I used a combination of super glue gel and hot glue, depending on the part. Some parts will be near impossible to use the hot glue on, so I recommend something like super glue with a fine applicator nozzle. After your build, if you have any excess glue, you may want to use a product like WD-40 to remove any visible residue from the surface.
Make sure previously-glued parts are not going to move before messing with them!

Build steps listed below:

  1. Glue the Blue Outer Wall pieces to the Main Body (sandwiching the Plate Reskin piece in between them, if you're using it).
  2. Glue the “Insert Coin” sign to the Coin Slot piece.
  3. Glue the Black Inner Wall and Coin Slot pieces to the Main Body. Take extra care to get the position right when gluing the Coin Slot!
  4. Glue the Ghost Pegs to the Ghosts. When dry, glue the other end of the pegs into the Main Body.
  5. Insert Black Inner Pac-Man part into the Yellow Outer Pac-Man part. Glue the Black Rear Pac-Man part in place, holding it all together.
  6. OPTIONAL - if using the Plate Reskin piece, you may want to glue it down around where Pac-Man goes.
  7. Slide Pacman into the slot, and assembly is done!

Other Notes:

  • The version I printed and showed in my photos/video is different from what is uploaded. What I uploaded has one major difference: that the angle of the “playing field” is 10 degrees. The one I printed was 3 degrees, but I needed to wedge it to 10 degress to get the best effect and reduce failures (coins falling out the front). Other than this difference, there are just minor improvements (the back secret door, better weight distribution, pegs to help install the ghosts, etc…)
  • Rarely, a coin may fall out or get stuck. Generally, other coins will push a stuck coin along. Dirts coins are more likely to cause this issue, due to added friction. Feel free to grease up the board parts that the coins can touch, or clean your coins.
  • I haven't tested it, but in theory Golden Dollar coins should work too! Let me know if it does!
  • Silver Half Dollar coins are too big to work.

Enjoy!
