Description
Before making the Star Saber as my first real big piece i decided to maybe try something easier, to see if i could even make something like this. So, I ended up making Megatrons Sword from TFA, it's nothing Special, but i decided to upload it anyway.
I needed to extrapolate a litte since the original is quite literally just a few dozed lines, but overall it was a fun project.
Printing:
There are quite a few parts to print, but they print pretty easily for the most part.
The longer blade parts can require a brim for adhesion and the main crossguard part needs supports, but nothing special.
You'll also have to choose which hilt variant you'd like. It's just plain red in the show, but i added some detailing to make it look a bit better. Choose whichever you prefer.
2 Wall should suffice, but if you want some extra strength, you can use more for the handle and main crossguard piece.
Important: The Pins, holding everything together are made to be press-fit, and its a pretty tight fit, if you are having trouble with them due to differences it printers or otherwise, try printing them at 99% or 98%.
Assembly:
Assembly is pretty straight forward, you'll need to glue on some pieces to the crossguard, the rest slots together with pins. They are press fit but glue is still recommended.
Here are the full assembly instructions:
And that's it. Configurations, you have a sword.
Scale:
The finished sword is pretty exactly 1 m long, but there's some room for scaling it up or down if you want.
I've also added an A1 mini profile which comes out to be the same size, the blade is just cut into more parts.
Filament:
I used Anycubic Silk grey PLA (specifically not silver but silk grey, because it's a darker shade) for the silver parts.
For the handle I used Bambulab matte red PLA, and simply generic red and black PLA for the other parts.
Triva:
The swords are formed by the helicopter blades of his alt mode. I was embarrassingly deep into this project when i realized this.
So, happy printing!
If you prefer something a little more detailed, I have made both the Star Saber and the Dark Star Saber from Transformers Prime:
