Description
The high detail model of a WWII bomb that you've asked for is finally here! This model is a 1/4 scale model of the mighty AN-M30 100lb bomb dropped by famous bombers in WWII such as the B-17 Flying Fortress, Avro Lancaster, B-24, and many more. This model includes all details, such as the arming fuse on the nose and inside the tail structure.
The model is super easy to assemble, takes seconds -- no glue is required. Just snap the two halves together with the provided pegs, then insert the two fuses into the round holes. Note that the fuse with 2 blades goes in the nose and the fuse with 4 blades goes in the tail. When removing the nose fuse (2 bladed part) just be a little bit careful removing the supports – its not super fragile, but you wouldn't want to bend the propeller.
Background: The AN-M30 is called a “General Purpose” bomb. It came in many weighted sizes from 100lbs all the way up to thousands of pounds – this model is of the 100lb variant. This is a “dumb” bomb meaning it has no guidance after being dropped unlike modern bombs. The bomb had a propeller on the nose and on the tail, as seen in this model – these propellers were fuses that ensure that the bomb didn't arm until after it was dropped and the propellers spinned while the bomb fell. Wouldn't want a bomb to arm and blow up while still attached to the plane after all. A huge variety of aircraft dropped these bombs in WW2, such as:
