7 Penny Staunton (Modified) Chess Set

The Staunton chess set is the standard tournament style of chess pieces.

This is a modified design of the Staunton chess style adapted to be easier to print on a 3D Printer with no supports.
Each piece has a hole in the bottom into which you can put 7 pennies for weighting, after inserting the pennies, it is a tight space, a felt bottom piece is then glued in place to facilitate smooth movement on the board.

The pieces fit well with a Square Size of 50 to 55 mm

Printing
   Each piece can be printed standing straight up with no supports required.
 

Felt

A 1.5 mm thick felt is used here.

   The chess pieces were printed using
•    Black                                                   Overture Matte Black PLA+
•    White                                                   Sunlu Meta PLA  (Cream White)
•    Infill                                                       15 %
•    Layer Height                                        .15 Quality

Weighting the Pieces and attaching felt

•    Insert the pennies into the base of the piece
•    Apply some glue (model glue works well) to the  base and pennies
•    Put the glued surface lightly on the felt piece, don't press too hard
•    Allow to dry
•    Trim excess felt
