RFID Wrangler

The RFID Wrangler is a storage case for Bambu Lab RFID tags scavenged from empty spools of Bambu Lab filament. It holds up to 180 RFID tags (2 in each of 90 slots). Slots for color tabs along the sides allow you to organize the tags by color groups for easy recognition and retrieval. A locking bar with hinge keeps the RFID tags in place for storage.

 

I've been saving the RFID tags from Bambu Lab for use with third party filaments, but could not find a good way to organize or store the RFID tags. Sometimes, I want to use a color not provided by Bambu Lab and want the filament to be recognized without having to enter it manually. For example, I like eSUN PLA+ Bone White as a beige color, and use a Bambu Lab “Beige 10201” RFID tag so that the spool is automatically recognized each time I put it in the AMS (instead of having to manually enter the color each time).

 

Versions

 

There are two versions of the RFID Wrangler:

• RFID Wrangler - Long: This is the original version that holds 180 RFID tags. It does not fit on an A1 Mini printer.
• RFID Wrangler - Short: This smaller version hold 100 RFID tags and fits on an A1 Mini printer

Color Tabs

 

The color tabs can be printed in any color. I print them using the official Bambu Lab colors. There are slots on both sides of the RFID tags so that you can offset the color tabs, if necessary. Mine are grouped as follows:

• Rainbow (color wheel) colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet
• Black, gray, white
• Browns (including beiges)
• Metallic colors (gold, silver, etc.)

Reusing RFID Tags

 

Reusing RFID tags is easy. Simply remove them from empty rolls of official Bambu Lab filament, and insert them into refills of similar colors of third party filament before you close the reusable spool.

 

I strongly recommend labeling each RFID tag. I use a Brother P-touch Label Maker (see photos) which works really well, but you could also just use a marker.
