Description
Dragonfly as a fly repellent. I saw this idea somewhere on the Internet and decided to try it. I tried to make the dragonfly as real as possible.
It has separately printed eyes and wings. I made the eyes from silk filament to make them shiny, while the wings are made of PETG translucent through which light penetrates nicely, just like through real wings.
There are two holes in the dragonfly's body. The bottom hole is used to insert the filament fiber, while the side hole is used to interlace the string. All holes in the dragonfly's body and the gap in the clip are made with negative parts. So you can easily adapt them to your needs.
Â
After printing, glue the parts together. Select the appropriate filament fiber length. Insert the filament into the clip and into the dragonfly and attach it, for example, to the brim of a hat.
Â
I printed a lot of them and I will be testing :)
Update 22.08.2025:
After a short field test, I found that the dragonfly works well on horse flies, like below
but it does not work on green flies like below
One horse fly, seeing this dragonfly, swooped down to the ground and pretended to be dead, while the green ones were indifferent.Â
It turns out that the dragonfly should work well on kayaks and boats where dragonflies and horseflies naturally occur.
