Description

A snap-fit planetary gearbox designed to showcase a common gear reduction method used within the engineering industry. Print in any material you like, but PLA is just fine.

YOU MUST PRINT USING THE FOLLOWING SETTINGS:

  • 100 mm/s outer wall speed (If higher, the shafts will not fit)
  • 0.4mm brim-object gap (otherwise, again, a shaft will not fit)
  • If at all possible, use the smooth PEI plate.

CONTENTS:
Input Stage:

  • 1x Input Cap
  • 1x I/O Shaft
  • 1x Input Transfer Shaft

Gear Reduction Stage (4:1) (Stackable, I don't recommend more than 3, which is 64:1 reduction):

  • 1x Gearbox Shell
  • 1x Rotary Bracket
  • 1x Sun Gear
  • 4x Planet Gear

Output Stage:

  • 1x Output Cap
  • 1x I/O Shaft

Assembly:

  1. Place the gears and rotary bracket within the gearbox shell as shown in the second GIF.
  2. Repeat Step 1 for all desired gear reduction stages.
  3. Connect gear reduction stages by inserting the square shaft on one stage's rotary bracket into the square hole on another's sun gear and the four circular pins into the four circular holes. This should be press-fit, but if not, use glue.
  4. Attach one I/O Shaft to the square shaft of the last reduction stage's rotary bracket.
  5. Cover the I/O Shaft with the Output Cap.
  6. On the other side, insert the Input Transfer Shaft into the square hole in the Sun Gear.
  7. Attach the remaining I/O Shaft to the Input Transfer Shaft
  8. Cover the I/O Shaft with the Input Cap.
