Description

This is a baroque style picture frame I made that has enough space in its border to hold LED's and a 4mm acrylic cover.

Printing

  • 1x guideA.stl and guideB.stl
  • 4x corner.stl
  • 4x holder_corner.stl
  • 4x holder_straight.stl
  • 8x standoff.stl (optional)

Assembly

The mounts are made to go on a 3 to 5mm thick sheet of MDF to give the frame rigidity,

for this you will need some 12mm M4 screws and nuts.

To make the mounting a bit easier I used some superglue to hold the nuts in place.

If you did not change the length of the corner pieces or printed some straights as extensions you will need a 31x31cm MDF board to hold the frame.

I did my assembly as follows:

  1. Incase you decided to use a sheet of acrylic with the frame glue a standoff piece to the middle of the lip on each corner frame piece while leaving a 4.5mm gap at the top so the sheet can be slid in freely,
  2. Use a straight mount and the guide A to mark drill holes on the center of each side on the MDF
  3. Use a corner mount piece and the guide B to mark drill holes in each corner on the MDF
  4. Take two corner, one straight mount and two corner pieces. Stick them together and put aside.
  5. Screw down a corner mount and a straight mount to one side of the MDF and slide on two corner pieces then add a second corner mount to the end and screw it down.
  6. When you finished up three of the sides like this take the piece you pre-assembled and put it in the gap of the frame, then screw it down from behind.

Since I wanted to use an LED strip with the frame I glued all my frame parts together with the mount pieces and than put some 12mm wide aluminum strips on the inside of the lip and attached some LED's.

To route the wires out I simply drilled a hole in one corner piece and drilled another hole on the outside to fit in a 12v power supply connector.
