Description
Pleter ornamentation is a relief decoration whose basic element, a single- or multi-striped rod, forms a wide variety of combinations of ornaments, sometimes interwoven with stylized plant motifs and animal and human figures. Pleter is mainly the name for the pre-Romanesque decoration of architectural details and church furniture in the period from the 8th to the 11th century. As such, it was the predominant decoration in central and northern Italy and in Croatia.
